Why does your business need social media?

Most businesses are already on social media; some know they need to but haven't got the time, and others have an account open collecting dust unsure of what to do with it.

Many traditional businesses in fields like manufacturing and engineering ask us why they need to be on social media? Does it really matter? And how does it translate to sales?

We have written this short article to answer these very questions and summarise what you are missing out on by not utilising social media for your business.

1. Brand awareness

In 2022 the majority of people are on social media, from your 2-year-old nephew to your 80-year-old grandmother - there is going to be some form of social media.

“There are 53 million active social media users in the UK, which is 77.9% of the UK population.”

As marketers, we know that wherever the attention is, we need to be. When the high streets were buzzing with trade, posters and billboards were the keys but with people switching their attention to screens, social media is the best way to capture their attention.

Social media allows you to get your brand in front of people’s eyes, increasing name recognition and brand awareness at a fraction of the cost of traditional marketing.

2. Sales

It was reported that “78% of salespeople engaged in social selling are outselling their peers who aren’t.”So why take the risk of losing out?

For B2B businesses, platforms like LinkedIn are a great and easy way to connect with key employees in positions that you want to build relationships with.

Social media apps like Instagram have integrated shopping features into their platforms shortening the customer journey to purchase products.

A lot of these processes require little to no funding resulting in a great ROI.

3. Establishes authority

Choices can be overwhelming, helping your customers narrow down their options.

When you search for an engineering company on Google there are over 8 billion results.

As a consumer, who should I trust? Who knows what they are talking about? Why should they choose you?

You can use your social media platforms to demonstrate your qualities and place within your industry.

For example with Glass's social media, we have created a series called “The Rundown”.

This is a series where once a week we talk about 3 new changes in the world of social media.

Because we are constantly researching and keeping up with the news in our industry, clients and potential clients can see that we keep our finger on the pulse of the world and are up to date with the latest developments.

4. Customer support.

Social media is a way for your brand to be more accessible and convenient for your customers.

Trying to find a company's number or email in 2022 can be difficult but it only takes seconds to find their social media accounts.

Many brands large and small use social media as a channel for customer support.

Because many are so used to using social media it feels more comfortable for them to speak to brands through this format.

5. Humanise your brand

For years businesses could get away with being corporate and unapproachable but in today’s climate there is a need for human touch - social media can help.

Use your social accounts to showcase photos and videos of your staff so clients and consumers can see the culture of your company.

When you demonstrate that you care about your employees and that you created a happy environment it increases people's perception of you.

If you have made it this far, hopefully, you will understand the importance of a strong social media presence for your business.
